Dental Crowns in Modesto, CA
Restore Damaged Teeth With Strength and Beauty
A crown is a custom cap that covers a damaged tooth, holding it together and protecting it from further breakdown. At Dental Gallery of Modesto, Dr. Kaur designs each crown to match the shape and shade of your natural teeth, so it looks right and feels right when you bite.
When a Crown Is the Right Choice
Fillings work well for small to moderate cavities, but when a large part of a tooth is missing or weakened, a filling alone can't hold it together. A crown covers the entire visible tooth and spreads biting forces evenly, which helps prevent cracks from spreading.
- A tooth that is cracked or fractured
- A large, failing, or repeatedly replaced filling
- A tooth that has had a root canal, especially a back tooth
- Severely worn teeth from grinding
- Covering a dental implant
- Improving the shape or color of a misshapen or stained tooth
The Crown Process
At the first visit we numb the tooth, remove any decay, shape the tooth so the crown can fit over it, and take impressions or scans. You leave with a temporary crown. At the second visit, usually about two weeks later, we remove the temporary, check the fit, color, and bite of your permanent crown, and bond it into place.
Caring for Your Crown
Brush twice a day, floss daily around the crown, and keep up with regular cleanings. The tooth underneath can still get a cavity at the edge of the crown, so home care matters. If you grind your teeth, a night guard can help protect your crown and your natural teeth.
